2 Ways to Access Your SkyDrive Files Locally

While Windows 8.1 SkyDrive’s integration with tablets might go well, there is one feature that still poses a problem for those with traditional PCs and with large hard drives.

And this is because Microsoft wants to store all your files in SkyDrive and only download them on your desktop only if you really need them.

However, while this feature works well for those tablets with 32 or 64 GB, it still makes sense to keep a copy of your files on the hard drive.

That said, here are two methods by which your SkyDrive files are available both locally and otherwise.  The first one involves opening File Explorer and then right-clicking the SkyDrive icon in the left-hand navigation column. After this, make sure you select “Make available offline” in the context menu.

If you want to make individual folders or files available offline, all you have to do is right-click and select them individually. If you want to know which files of yours are already available offline, then look for the ‘Availability’ column in the main window of File Explorer.

The second way to do this is by opening the SkyDrive UI app as well as tapping the Windows logo key + I to open the Settings charm. After this, select Options and then click/ tap the on/off slider to ‘On’. There will be just one slider but to be on the safe side, it will be labeled “Access all files offline”.

Whichever method you opt for, you will have access to all your SkyDrive files on your hard drive.
